The combined boys swim team won the Spartan Invite this past Saturday. The strength of the team showed in the 3 relay events when the team won all 3 relays. That was a goal of the coaches to dominate the relays and let some younger guys get some experience swimming at the varsity level. The top 5-6 guys still their jobs performing but the victory was a total team effort. Besides the relay victories, 3 individuals won their races as well. Eli Hance (ML) won the 100 back in a season best time of 1:13.72 as he continues to really shine and improve. James Bouy (MLHS) won the 200 free in a time of 2:18.99. The third individual cham p was Joey Vavruska (MLHS) in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:13.25. Some the less experienced swimmers had really good days. Brian Melching (ML) had a 4th in the 50 free with a time of 33.23. Jaden Brown (MLHS) had a 5th in the 50 free with a season best time of 35.10 and also swam on 2 relays that placed 3rd and 4th. Aaron Lu (LCL) swam on the 4th place relay but his best performance came in another relay when he was asked to swim a stroke (butterfly) that he has never swam in a meet. Doing this without complaining or being negative is what stands out. Sometimes doing something for the team is better than getting some place. Working with athletes who are not selfish is always a blessing!
Next action is a home dual with Cudahy on Wednesday.
