Girls Varsity Cross Country · Lady Spartans are State Bound

  Place Points
Martin Luther High School 2nd 66

The girls cross country team beat the odds Saturday at the Shorewood sectional to finish second as a team and qualify for State. Entering the day seeded fifth, the girls ran past Wisconsin Lutheran, Port Washington, and New Berlin West to achieve their goal. Four of the five Spartans had season best times to pull off the upset. Sophie Moravec led the Spartan girls with a third place finish, followed by Jordan Koepke in seventh place. Rounding out the top five were Thea Jurrs (17th), Mariana Brick (18th), and Lauren Jurss. Senior captain Jess Rohleder, still struggling to get healthy, ran her best time in a few weeks. Katie Sievert was the seventh runner, and earned a career PR by almost a minute. The next stop for the team is the State meet next Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids.
