The Lady Spartans were able to erase a 17 point deficit in the second half for a huge comeback 54-50 win over previously unbeaten and Racine Lutheran in Friday night in the Spartandome to move into a three way tie for first place atop the Metro Classic Conference.
The Spartans took a 10 point deficit into halftime and had to overcome some hot shooting by the Crusaders to begin the second half for a hard fought win.
After getting down 39-22 early in the second half, the Spartans were able to step up their defense and force some tough shots while getting hot on the offensive end to ride a 20-2 run to take the lead late.
Down 48-46 with under 2 minutes to play, sophomore guard, Mariana Brick, hit a huge three to put the Spartans ahead by one and they never looked back after that.
Sophomore Vanessa Solano led all scorers with 18 points while junior Sydney Burris added 13 points off the bench.
The Lady Spartans were able to hold the Crusaders 25 points under their season scoring average while holding their phenom guard, Caroline Strande, to 14 points (more than half under her season average). It was a total team effort!
The Lady Spartans are on the road next week for two very important conference road games at Dominican and The Prairie School!
